Eastern Bay of Plenty Police seek info on suspicious activity in rural areas

Eastern Bay of Plenty has had an increase in quad bikes, motorbikes and trail bikes stolen in the past few months particularly from rural areas.

Eastern Bay of Plenty Area Commander, Inspector Sandra Venables says, "It's a good time for farmers and the general public to increase their security around these items and protect their property by visiting www.snap.org.nz to register valuable items on this website."

Inspector Venables says noting unique engine/chassis numbers, taking photographs and engraving the property with a personal code and lodging this information on the SNAP website for their own records is a great way for Police to be able to locate an owner for any stolen property they may find whilst completing search warrants.

"We want to prevent the thefts occurring and can only do this with the communities help, so please note down vehicle registrations, be aware of anyone who is unusual or out of place in your area and call your local Police station or if it is urgent, dial 111."

It is also strongly recommended that farmers ensure they put some security in place for these sought after items, but if anything does get stolen then having a list of their property and unique numbers which they can supply to Police is the best way of ensuring that the property is identified and returned to them.

"Anyone with any information in relation to recent thefts of quad bikes and motorbikes or any other suspicious activity should contact their local Police station or phone Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
