Bring Your Home competition winner announced

Malaysian man Wallace Wai Hoe Yap has won the Bring Your Home competition sponsored by Hutt City Council and Hutt News.

The competition attracted 85 photo entries from around the world and nearly 30,000 votes on the council’s Facebook page. The prize was a single return airfare to the Hutt from anywhere in the world.

Mr Hoe Yap attracted 3,405 of the 29,734 total votes – 816 clear of his nearest rival.

Hutt Mayor Ray Wallace said the competition had succeeded in raising the city’s profile and increasing the sense of civic pride among residents.

“We wanted to encourage people to think of Hutt City as home and take pride in that fact, no matter how they may travel. We have achieved that goal, in no small part because of the support from our co-sponsor, the Hutt News.

“The competition builds on the I Hutt City campaign, which has been running since the start of the year and aims to reinforce our presence regionally over the longer term.”

The council and Hutt News will offer a package of sponsored activities to Mr Hoe Yap when he arrives.

Competition rules allow the winner up to six months to use the airfare, which will be paid for by the newspaper. The council carried out promotional activities and ran the competition itself.
