Remarkables Market returns for third summer season

The hugely popular Remarkables Market re-opens for its third summer season this coming weekend, October 27.

The Remarkables Market season runs each Saturday from 8.30-1pm until March 30, 2013. Held in and around Remarkables’ red barn, approximately 100m from the main entrance to Remarkables Park Town Centre, the market is easy to find and well signposted.

Market Manager, Sherryn Smith said “We will again be offering 15 free coffee’s for the early birds buying from 8.30am and we are delighted to announce the second season of the highly successful Market Chef, starting November 10, a competition where local amateur cooks get to showcase their talents up against each other.”

“Among all the favourite returning stallholders there are a number of new ones we are excited about, including Cardrona Merino Lamb, The Design Garage, Yoshimura Keita and Bella Yum Yum.”

On opening day there will be fabulous fresh, organic fruit and vegetables from Aspiring Organics in Wanaka, Freeway Orchard in Cromwell, George’s Oranges and Lemons with a wider range of seasonal vegetables as the season progresses.

An exciting new initiative for the community is a Produce Exchange table. Any excess homegrown produce can be brought to the market from 8.15am to be purchased, then on sold at the market by a local fundraising group. For the first two weeks to kick start the exchange, people are asked to donate their produce, and the first 10 will get a Bacon Buttie in exchange for product.

Wakatipu High School French students and teacher Guillaume Charton will be the market’s ‘friendly market helpers’ throughout the entire market season to help with fundraising efforts for a class trip to Noumea.

There are still opportunities for clubs, schools and not-for-profit organisations to fundraise, and any local musicians and buskers looking to provide entertainment should contact the Market team.

Remarkables Market has plenty of parking immediately adjacent to the market and is within easy walking distance of the Remarkables Park Town Centre for those travelling by bus.

Remarkables Market is still accepting applications from potential traders but recommends people register early to guarantee their place. Vendors can secure their stalls in advance for either an 11-week or 23-week period, or on a weekly casual basis.
