Interim Swim Coaching Arrangements
Interim
Swim Coaching Arrangements
Dunedin (Friday, 25 January) – The new Dunedin Swim Coaching Board, appointed just before Christmas, has announced interim coaching arrangements until a new coach is appointed.
Chairperson Lindsay Dey says they have appointed Genardi Lavara to work with the senior squad of 30-35 swimmers, while John Cornfoot will look after the junior squad which has a group of around ten young swimmers.
“These are only interim arrangements until we have made a permanent appointment to the swim coaching role,” he says.
“However, we are fortunate to have the services of two such experienced coaches to look after our local squads in the meantime.”
The new board, announced before Christmas, includes Mr Dey, Matt Heaton, Sean McMahon, Kay Alexander and John Brimble, who between them represent a wide cross-section of the local swimming community.
Their role is to manage squad based swim coaches’ services at Moana Pool with a view to developing Dunedin as a major centre for swimming and providing clear pathways for developing young swimmers, from learn-to-swim to elite squad level.
The board anticipates it will name a new full-time coach in April.
