Creative Capital alert - Semi-Permanent 2013 tickets on sale

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Creative Capital alert - Semi-Permanent 2013 tickets on sale now!

Hey all you creative types. Open your mind for the biggest brain dump of the year. Tickets for Semi-Permanent Wellington 2013 are now on sale.

Over two days - 18 and 19 October 2013 - twelve speakers from around the globe will share their personal experiences, insights and expertise in the design, animation, advertising, graphic and illustration arenas at the Embassy Theatre.

This year the mash-up of creative minds includes legendary creative director Matt Checkowski (Chief at The Department of the 4th Dimension who created the first ever Pop-Up Museum for scent and designed the dream sequences for Steven Spielberg’s Minority Report, among other things), Turkish software and new technology maestro Memo Atken (Marshmallow Laser Feast), Australian Scott Harris of Mistress Creative in Venice Beach who has created experiential campaigns for Hot Wheels, a TV series for Red Bull and the world’s first musical for a brand.

New Zealand Director of Semi-Permanent Simon Velvin, a born and bred Wellingtonian, was determined to make the critically acclaimed creative conference an annual fixture on the capital’s cultural calender

“It will be the second year we bring this mix of minds to the city and I couldn’t be more enthused by the selection of smarts we have traveling to New Zealand. There is no other way I know to have your mind bent and your soul inspired in such a short, sharp way. That’s the beauty of Semi-Permanent – it’s intense, it’s exciting and we don’t want people to miss out so we encourage everyone to get their tickets fast.”

Female speakers include Michella Webb of Studio Round, an internationally recognised Melbourne-based designer. She is joined by Sydney typographer Gemma O’Brien who’s hand-lettering is in demand from clients such as Woolworths, the New York Times, Vodafone, Smirnoff and Canon.

Mario Lambardo, one of Germany’s most relevant graphic designers will be traveling from Germany and industry wunderkund, architect Farzin Lotfi-Jam, whose practice explores the ‘intersection of culture, perception and algorithm,’ will demonstrate what that can mean.

“Semi-Permanent is a global gathering of pure talent, new ideas, conversation and visual splendour,” says Velvin. “There’s a festival atmosphere to the conference with inspiring activities and events throughout the week including live art, exhibitions, installations and workshops. See you there.”

Gordon Campbell: On What We Could Do For Hong Kong, If Only We Dared

There has been something repulsive about PM Jacinda Ardern’s assurances that our joint 5 Eyes criticism of China’s actions over Hong Kong – and China’s harsh reaction – are all well understood on both sides. According to Ardern, it has been a case of us saying the sort of things we’ve said before, them acknowledging our need to do so, and then them responding much as we would expect them to do. All neat and tidy. Frankly, if all of this is merely virtue signalling on our part, and huffy declarations of independence on their part, then what’s the point of this diplomatic dance..? More>>
