Body Recovered From Lake Wanaka

At about 5pm today searchers from the Police Search and Rescue, LandSAR and
Wanaka Coastguard recovered the body of a local Wanaka man who had been
reported missing by family members last night (4 August 2013).

The body of Kenneth George Copland, aged 63, local politician of Wanaka, was
found in Lake Wanaka about 1km north of Boundary Creek.

Mr Copland had gone fly fishing alone at the mouth of the Makarora River
yesterday and an extensive aerial, water and shoreline search had been
conducted to find him.

Police express their sympathies to Mr Copland’s family and thank LandSAR,
the Wanaka Coastguard and local volunteers for their efforts in searching for
Mr Copland.

Police have now referred the matter to the coroner.
