Body Recovered From Lake Wanaka
At about 5pm
today searchers from the Police Search and Rescue, LandSAR
and
Wanaka Coastguard recovered the body of a local
Wanaka man who had been
reported missing by family
members last night (4 August 2013).
The body of Kenneth
George Copland, aged 63, local politician of Wanaka, was
found in Lake Wanaka about 1km north of Boundary Creek.
Mr Copland had gone fly fishing alone at the mouth of the
Makarora River
yesterday and an extensive aerial, water
and shoreline search had been
conducted to find him.
Police express their sympathies to Mr Copland’s family
and thank LandSAR,
the Wanaka Coastguard and local
volunteers for their efforts in searching for
Mr
Copland.
Police have now referred the matter to the
coroner.
