Regional Planning Committee drafts Annual Report

Regional Planning Committee drafts Annual Report

The Regional Planning Committee convened by Hawke’s Bay Regional Council positively received the draft annual report, on Wednesday, covering its first year of proceedings.

The report gives an overview of the form and function of the Hawke’s Bay Regional Planning Committee and reports on its activities over the period April 2012 to June 2013.

Tania Hopmans represents Maungaharuru-Tangitu Incorporated; one of nine Treaty Claimant Groups in the region. She said, “Having asked for this report at our June meeting, this draft is valuable and I look forward to the adoption of a ‘plain english’ standard and format changes, so that this information can be widely-circulated and taken up across the region.”

Other committee member comments supported the content of the report, making suggestions on how to improve this draft before a final version is brought to the next RPC meeting in September 2013.

Over the fifteen months of the RPC’s governance, the Committee has considered and made recommendations to Council on plan change items relating to the Tukituki Catchment, the Taharua/ Mohaka Catchment, the Tutaekuri/ Ahuriri/ Ngaruroro/ Karamu Catchment (TANK) and in Regional Policy Statement areas concerning Change 4, the Built Environment and Change 5, Land Use and Freshwater Management. Other matters discussed and considered were Commissioner training and accreditation for RMA hearings, and the Regional Planning Committee’s role in legislation.

It is anticipated that the Regional Planning Committee Annual Report will be used by RPC representatives as a formal means to update their respective Iwi.
