Worker loses leg in forestry accident


At about 2:45pm this afternoon, emergency services responded to a serious
workplace injury, near Broadwood, Northland.

A male forestry worker has sustained a leg amputation, below the knee
and was in a serious condition, status 1.

After stablising the male, at the scene, his condition has improved to
status 2.

He has now been flown to Whangarei Base Hospital, by the Northland Emergency Services Trust helicopter.

The incident has been referred to the Ministry of Business Innovation &
Employment (formally OSH), for investigation.
