Applications now open for Horizons community grants

Applications for Horizons Regional Council’s community grants programme are now open.

The Horizons community grants programme is now in its second year with grants available to support community-led projects that help in making the Manawatu-Wanganui Region a great place to live, work and play.

Community groups, schools, early childhood centres and iwi/hapu groups are all eligible to apply for a grant from the $20,000 pool. These will be awarded to projects that enhance the Region and encourage more people to engage with the natural environment.

Horizons acting media and communications manager Kate Ritani believes the programme is “a great way for the council to support community groups in our Region who have some really innovative and exciting projects”.

The last round of grants saw groups from all areas of the Region benefit and included a greenhouse construction, native hillside redevelopment, numerous plantings and development of wetland areas.

“If successful, our staff will be available to assist with the project and provide advice and expertise so that maximum benefit is achieved from the funding received”.

The closing date for community grants applications is Friday 27 September. For further information please visit www.horizons.govt.nz or phone Horizons on 0508 800 800.
