Assault and robbery at Buddhist Temple

Assault and robbery at Buddhist Temple

Police currently investigating the assault and robbery at the Buddhist Temple in Bombay last night are asking the public for their assistance to identify the three offenders who were involved.

It is a particularly nasty attack on a harmless monk from the temple. He is 58 years old. The offenders have smashed down his front ranch slider, assaulted him before binding him with handcuffs and leading him to the temple.

They continued to assault the monk and took property from the temple. The offenders left the monk unconscious and attempted to get away in the victims vehicle.

They could not leave the premise in this vehicle so they abandoned it and left by other means.

A scene examination is currently being completed and a number of other inquiries are being followed up.

The victim has suffered a number of fractures and a significant head wound and is currently receiving treatment in hospital.

This was a vicious unprovoked attack and the public can assist by providing any information to identify the three offenders.

A number of suspicious vehicles had been seen in the area in the days prior to the attack. Police also have an interest in any sightings or information about a blue 2000 Mazda Capella hatchback registration esj401.

Anyone with any information can contact the counties manukau CIB on 09 2611300 or Thomas.gollan@police.govt.nz. Alternatively if they wish to remain anonymous they can contact crime stoppers 0800 555 111.
