Crash on State Highway 82 (Hakataramea Highway) near Waimate
Two young persons have died in a vehicle crash on State Highway 82 (Hakataramea Highway) near Waimate.
It is believed the deceased are a 21 year old male and a 18 year old female.
The Police were alerted to the accident after a injured persons was located on the roadway this morning at about 8.am this morning although it is thought the accident occurred late Saturday night.
From initial scene examination it appears as a vehicle travelling from Waimate towards Kurow has failed to take an easy left hand bend leaving the road and ending up in the bottom of a small gully.
It appears that both deceased found at the scene were not wearing safety belts.
Speed and alcohol are also contributing factors to the crash.
At this early stage neither of the two persons have been
formally identified.

soon as practical.
