Search for missing skier
A 72 year old male tourist is currently the focus of a search operation by the Wanaka Police and Wanaka Land SAR personnel. The 72 year old male skier has failed to meet his bus ride down from Treble Cone ski field yesterday afternoon and there are grave concerns for his safety.
Wanaka Police SAR Incident Controller, Snr Constable Mike Johnston said that it is believed that the missing male was skiing alone. The visibility during the day was poor and could have contributed to this male getting lost or injured.
Enquiries by Treble Cone management and Police have eliminated the possibility that he took another ride off the ski field. A ground search by Treble Cone ski patrol, and an aerial search by Aspiring Helicopters and manned by Land SAR members failed to locate any sign of the man before dark.
