Greens Announce Council Candidate

The Green Party is pleased to announce that it is standing Colin Robertson in the upcoming Nelson Council elections.

“I'm standing for council to bring a Smart, Green Economy to Nelson.  I am a problem solver through and through, I studied Energy Resource Engineering due to a desire to be a part of the solution to climate change” says Mr Robertson. 

Colin offers the electorate someone with wide life experience. He has worked in education, farmed, designed homes, built a low impact off grid home, ran three companies including his own wine label and works in IT.

“It is now time to put my problem solving abilities to a immediate challenge.  A lot of good work has been done in the framing out futures project to create a vision. The challenge is bridging the gap from where we are to where we wish to be as a community.  The second part of the challenge is implementing these changes within a tight fiscal environment” says Mr Robertson. 

“We have experienced growth of less than 1% per year over the last five years and yet spending in the ten year plan assumes rates and targeted rates will increase by 70% in that period without the intention of paying down any of the $100 million debt.  These are the challenges I am standing to face” according to Mr Robertson. 

Mr Robertson’s Council aspirations stem from a passion to see Nelson position itself as national leader in the transition to a resilient, community focused, clean energy future.

Local Green Party spokesperson Aaryn Barlow is acting as Mr Robertson’s campaign manager. “The Greens are excited about fielding such a high calibre candidate. Colin would bring an amazing skill set to the Council table and we look forward to running a strong campaign to get him elected” says Mr Barlow.
