Nominations for the 2013 Pride Awards now open

The Pride Awards celebrate the success of young people (aged 5 to 17) who live in the Greater Wellington region. The Pride Awards Trust, the charity that administers the Awards, aims to give the community an opportunity to support and celebrate its young people. By doing this, the Trust believes that we can inspire young people to reach their full potential and build a better future for themselves and for us all.

The Pride Awards have been held annually since 2010. Awards are presented at a ceremony in December each year, with nominees, families and friends invited to join in the celebrations. This ceremony helps show our young people how proud we are of them, and that we appreciate them and their achievements, however large or small. It gives them a moment in the spotlight, and aims to inspire them to even greater success.

Past winners have come from diverse backgrounds and have been presented with very different life situations. But all have demonstrated success, for example, by: overcoming adversity; serving their community; demonstrating courage, leadership or teamwork; practising and encouraging a healthy lifestyle; or achieving academically, creatively, or in sport or recreation.

Nominations for Pride Awards come from families, communities, schools, and young people themselves. There are ten Award categories, with a Junior (age 5 to 12) and Senior (age 13 to 17) award in each category. The Pride Awards website (http://prideawards.org.nz/) provides more information on the nominations process and the Award categories. Nominations may be made online or by downloading a form and posting it to the Trust.

So, if you know of a young person who stands out from the crowd, act quickly! Go to the Pride Awards website and nominate them for an Award. Nominations close 10 September 2013.
