Aggravated robbery at Whangärei dairy

Aggravated robbery at Whangärei dairy

Police are investigating an aggravated robbery at a Whangärei dairy yesterday afternoon (August 26).

About 4.25pm a man entered the Destination Dairy on Riverside Drive, Whangärei, presented a firearm and demanded money from the female shop attendant.

The shop attendant has then fled to a room at the back of the dairy and the armed man has left taking the shop's cash register with him.

The man is believed to have run to a vehicle parked behind the dairy. The vehicle has then driven out of the Whangärei Aquatic Centre car park, turned right onto Ewing Road and then left onto Riverside Drive. It is not known whether a second person was waiting with the vehicle.

The male was described by witnesses as being dark skinned, possibly Maori, approximately 1.85m tall and possibly aged in his 20s and wearing a hooded sweatshirt. The vehicle used by the armed offender has been described as a blue sedan.

The man’s behaviour in the shop was described as erratic and he appeared to be highly strung. The risk this behaviour presents causes Police serious concern and if retailers are faced with an armed offender, Police suggest complete compliance.

Northland Police ask that anyone who has information on the incident or who may have witnessed the incident or seen a blue sedan driving erratically or at speed on Riverside Drive about the time of the incident to contact Police.

People with any information can contact Detective Marion Evans on 09 430 4527 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
