Severe Congestion On Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway

Severe Congestion On Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway

The NZ Transport Agency says there is severe congestion citybound on Auckland’s Northwestern Motorway (State Highway 16) and it is asking drivers to avoid the motorway west of Lincoln Road.

Traffic is restricted to one lane on the motorway at the Lincoln Road interchange, and vehicles are backing up past Westgate.  The Lincoln Road on-ramp remains open but the Transport Agency has closed the Royal Road and Hobsonville on-ramps eastbound to all traffic.

“We are advising all drivers to avoid this section of the motorway network.   It will take some time before the congestion is cleared,” says the Transport Agency’s acting Highway’s Manager Steve Mutton.

Westbound traffic on the Northwestern Motorway is not affected.  The Transport Agency, however, is asking all drivers to take care and be patient.
