Police Continue To Investigate Incident Involving Baby

"Police Continue To Investigate Incident Involving Baby"

Police are continuing to investigate an incident which occurred at a Princes Street address in Invercargill where a three-week old baby girl suffered life-threatening injuries.

Emergency services were called to the address by the occupants at 5.30am this morning and the baby was transported to Southland Hospital by ambulance.

The baby's condition continues to be critical and she has now been transferred to Starship Children's Hospital in Auckland.

Police say the baby's parents were in the house at the time and Police are speaking with them about the incident.

Because an active criminal investigation is underway in relation to the incident, it's not possible to provide details about the nature of the child's injuries or how the injuries were caused.

A scene examination with assistance from ESR will take place over the next two to three days.

The family are being supported by Victim Support and friends.

Police say they are not seeking anyone else in relation to the incident.
