Council Appoints New Chief Financial Officer

Council Appoints New Chief Financial Officer

Andy Matthews has been appointed Chief Financial Officer at Wellington City Council.

Mr Matthews had been doing the job in an acting capacity for the past month. He has previously worked for the Council in a variety of roles and, more recently, assisted with some finance related projects. He also has experience working for Auckland Council.

Council Chief Executive Officer Kevin Lavery said Mr Matthews enjoyed acting in the role and had decided to throw his hat in the ring for the permanent position, and emerged as the preferred choice from a strong field of candidates.

“Andy was the unanimous choice of the selection panel,” says Mr Lavery.

“We were looking for someone to deliver a finance strategy that will enhance and support economic growth in Wellington, maintain the Council’s financial viability, manage our financial planning process and budgets and ensure we have robust procurement processes, policies and systems – and
Andy is the best person to do this.”
