Behind the scenes Whangarei District planners are preparing for a major conversation with Kamo residents, with a view to getting things moving in the area.
“For years there has been a lot of backwards and forwards between the Kamo community and the Council with very little result,” said Whangarei District Council Team Leader District Plan and Policy, Nick Williamson.
“We all want to see Kamo Village revitalised, developing a hum and buzz and sense of activity and identity, but nothing much has got off the ground. We have come to think that planning takes a long time. Many have become tired and frustrated with “the process”.
"So, we are about to try something that hasn’t been done in New Zealand before; a fast-track community discussion and planning process. Between Monday 24 and Friday 28 February our team of planners will be at Kamo Library, keen to meet with anyone interested in seeing some fast progress in Kamo.
“Imagine watching the planning process take shape as a live event, where the community contributes and collaborates to develop a vision and a plan for their town. Not only a vision about what is planned for the town, but also how it should be done and when,” Mr Williamson said.
