Coromandel Weather Update #10

Coromandel Weather Update #10

A further severe weather warning for the southern Coromandel Peninsula is in place with further periods of heavy rain today and possible thundery downpours easing tonight or early Friday morning. Possibility of a further 120mm around the Kaimai Range.

Greg Ryan, Waikato CDEM Group advises that there has been some moderate flooding in some of our smaller streams overnight (e.g. Tairua and Kauaeranga), however this was not as severe as Tuesday night, with no significant problems reported. With the severe weather warning in place until Friday morning, there is the potential for these streams to come up again.

There is now also a focus on the larger rivers, and in particular the Waihou River, which is currently rising at Te Aroha. River monitoring stations upstream of Te Aroha are showing historically high levels, which will start moving through the system over the next couple of days.
