This work will require a lane closure and at a later stage a temporary full road closure along this part of Main Road. Road users will be detoured along Celia Street and Beachville Road.

Stage one
Main Road, past the moa cave, will be open for one-way traffic to town-bound traffic only from Monday, 23 June. Traffic heading towards Sumner will be detoured via Beachville Road. This section of Main Road will be one-way for up to two weeks, before a full road closure on Main Road is needed.
Stage two
From approximately Monday, 7 July Main Road will be completely closed near the moa cave. Traffic heading towards Sumner will continue to be detoured via Beachville Road, traffic heading towards town will be detoured via Celia Street. This work should take around a month to complete.

• Please watch your speed along Beachville Road and Celia Street and be considerate of residents. SCIRT prefers not to detour traffic onto quiet residential streets, but there are a lack of options along this section of work on Main Road.
• Work has been undertaken on the road surface on Celia Street and Beachville Road to bring it up to a standard suitable for the amount of traffic needing to take the detour.
• Fulton Hogan will monitor the condition of the roads during the detour period to ensure it is kept at an acceptable standard.

Hasn’t this already been fixed?
Local residents will be familiar with the Fulton Hogan crews who installed a new wastewater pressure main under Main Road between Barnett Park and the moa cave after the earthquakes. This pressure main now need to be extended and joined into the new pipes along McCormacks Bay Road.
