Northland storm update 10/7

Northland District Headquarters
88 Cameron Street, Whangarei
Thursday July 10, 2014

Due to the ongoing winds and heavy rain, Northland Police are urging people to take care on the roads and ensure their own safety.

Northland has experienced heavy rain and strong winds since Tuesday and the bad weather is expected to continue for the next 24 to 48 hours.

With so many storm related events such as flooding on the roads and fallen trees, police are asking people not to travel on the roads unless necessary.
They also need to ensure their own safety by not attempting anything risky, such as driving through flooded waters or removing fallen trees in high winds.

Local council contractors are erecting temporary signage at as many flooded roads as possible, but the conditions are making it difficult for them to reach all areas.

Police also ask people to check on their neighbours to make sure they are safe, especially elderly people or those with medical conditions.
