Make the 2015 New Zealander of the Year a Thames or Coromandel local
Thames Coromandel District Mayor
Glenn Leach today challenged local residents to nominate
someone to be New Zealander of the Year.
With the nominations period officially closing on 30 September, the Mayor had no doubt the 2015 Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year should be someone from the Thames Coromandel region.
“One of the best things about my job is I get to meet or hear people doing fantastic things for our community and for New Zealand.
“These are people whose selflessness has had a profound effect on the lives of so many others. They’ve made New Zealand a better place to live, yet their achievements are often unrecognised.
“I can think of no better chance for Thames and Coromandel to show New Zealand how proud we are of our own, than nominating these special people to be New Zealander of the Year. We should show the rest of the country that our people are New Zealand’s very best,” the Mayor said.
The New Zealander of the Year Awards is the ultimate accolade for New Zealanders, nominated by New Zealanders. Any member of the public can nominate an individual or community organisation in the Awards programme.
In addition to the Kiwibank New Zealander of the Year, awards will also be presented to New Zealanders who have performed with distinction in five additional award categories.
