More than 100 watches stolen in Whangarei burglary

Monday, 1 September 2014 - 3:45pm

Police are investigating the burglary of a surf shop in Whangarei where more than 100 watches were stolen.

About 1.15am this morning the offenders have smashed a window of Mega Surf in the Okara Shopping Centre and entered the shop.
They have then smashed display cabinets and stolen about 140 watches worth about $30,000.

Police believe the offenders left the scene in a Silver Subaru station wagon or a similar vehicle.

Detective Sergeant Aaron Crawford says police would like to hear from anyone who witnessed or who has information about the burglary.

"The brands of watches stolen are mainly Rip Curl and Nixon, so if anyone is offered these brands or any other watches at a cheap price they should contact police."

Anyone with information relating to the burglary can contact the Tactical Crime Unit at Whangarei Police on 09 430 4500.
