Monster Mayhem for Christchurch school holidays

Monster Mayhem for Christchurch school holidays

After several successful shows earlier this year, NO Productions Theatre Collective (Nataliya Oryshchuk) brings Monster Wars back to Christchurch kids and everyone else who enjoys a spectacular theatrical adventure with sword-fighting and circus tricks.

The show returns especially for the spring school holidays season and the Body Festival 2014. Theatrical monsters will be wrecking havoc for audience's delight on 28 September at Hohepa Hall (23 Barrington Street), followed by the run at New Brighton Memorial Hall on 5 October at 1.30pm and 3.30pm.

The kingdom is threatened by The Destroyer, a giant spider-like creature. Will the mysterious Hunter, a wanderer between the worlds, aid the Queen and her people with his army of monsters?...

With eerie costumes created by the talented New Zealander Rachael Travaille (MonstrositiesNZ), the show stars two brilliant Colombian actors Natascha Diaz and Marlon Ortiz. It also features Christchurch circus performers Daniel Heaphy and Taryn Leathart. The soundscape is created by Jazz School graduate Tom Harris and the set design is crafted by Ailise O'Neill, a Fine Arts graduate from Belfast, Ireland. This independent Christchurch theatre group brings together creative people from all over the world: Ukraine, Colombia, Ireland and New Zealand.

"The idea of this show was born on a bleak autumn day" - says Nataliya Oryshchuk, the producer, director and writer of the show, - "We thought of joyous carnival street processions, masks, drums and strong flowing energy, and this is how the characters of Monster Wars sprung to life. We want to add a splash of colour and energy to the gloomy post-earthquake Christchurch - and a kids’ show is the perfect form of theatre for this".

Tickets: $10 (booking fee applies).
