What would you do? Get Ready Week coming

Aucklanders can explore whether they would be prepared in the event of an emergency with Get Ready Week from 21 to 27 September. The theme this year is ‘What would you do?’

Despite the recent winter storms, many Aucklanders have not planned for how they will cope in a disaster, or taken steps to look after themselves and their families.

Clive Manley, Auckland Civil Defence Controller says during a disaster, emergency services are stretched and cannot assist everybody.

“People may have to be on their own for three or more days, and your most immediate form of assistance will come from your family and community.

Get Ready Week is a reminder to Aucklanders about the importance of being prepared and ready for a disaster.

“This year we are collaborating with the police to provide a Civil Defence mobile display at a number of supermarkets throughout Auckland. We also will have an information stand at Auckland Museum.

“In addition, there is a competition for youth to produce a You Tube video showing how Auckland can be better prepared. There is a lot to get involved with,” he says.

Updates for all events will be available on the Auckland Civil Defence Facebook and Twitter feeds.
