Last Chance to Comment on Proposals for the East

Media Release: Last Chance to Comment on Proposals for the East

24 September 2014

There is now only one week left to give feedback on all the ideas for the recovery of the east listed on EVO::SPACE.

EVO::SPACE is the on-line public consultation platform of Eastern Vision with over forty proposals put forward by the community.

“We intend to extract all the community feedback next Tuesday 30 September and start our analysis,” says Rev Peter Beck convenor of Eastern Vision.

“So if you want your voice to be heard now is your last chance”.

The concepts put forward include the popular city-to-sea river park with eco-sanctuary, wetlands for water management and a network of cycle and walkways.

Aquatic sports amenities like an international flat water sports lake, white water course, wave garden and cable wakeboard park also feature strongly.

These complement the indoor aquatic facilities with high support such as the replacement facility for QE2 and the proposed New Brighton hot salt water pool complex.

Other ideas have proved much more controversial such as bridging the mouth of the estuary or turning the red zone into a giant lake or an airport and aviation park.

“You can pick and choose what to comment on. You don’t have to do it all at once and can resume your session at a later time, so long as it is before the cut-off date on 30 September,” says Beck.

“We will make all the results available to the public and the recovery agencies along with a report and map of community aspirations based on this.”

The website address is http://evospace.co.nz.

This programme is funded by the Christchurch Earthquake Appeal Trust: “Tomorrow starts here”.
