Funding applications wanted for rural sports teams
Gisborne District Council are calling for applications for the Sport New Zealand Rural Travel Fund for financial assistance to sports people or teams travelling from rural areas.
“The Sport NZ Rural Travel Fund has been a great way of enabling young people from rural areas to participate in sporting activities” says Julie Conder, Fund administrator. “The fund is available for travel to any regular sporting activities that take place outside of school hours so we encourage rural schools and sports clubs to apply.” Sport New Zealand’s Rural Travel Fund supports travel costs for young people aged between 5-19 years who participate in school or club sports teams outside of school hours. “Getting involved in regular sporting competitions is always a challenge for young people living in rural communities.” Says Julie Conder.
Applications are invited from all rural schools and clubs sports teams and can cover costs such as bus hire or petrol costs. It is important for teams to note that the fund is only for travel to local competitions. Funding for travel to training or out of district competitions does not qualify. Applications for the summer travel fund close on 31 October 2014. Application forms are available at Council Customer services in Fitzherbert Street and Te Puia Springs or from Councils Website www.gdc.govt.nz
