Three injuries in Tongariro National Park

Three injuries in the Mountains of the Tongariro National Park.

The Taupo Based Greenlea Rescue helicopter was tasked to multiple events in the Tongariro National Park on Saturday.

Just after lunch the helicopter was dispatched to a woman in her twenties who had slipped near the summit of Mt Tongariro and injured her ankle. Just as she was recovered into the helicopter another woman fell and sustained a fractured arm while climbing the red crater. She was hover loaded in to the helicopter and they were both flown to Rotorua Hospital.

On the return flight to Taupo the Helicopter was re-tasked to the Tongariro Nation Park, this time to Mt Ruapehu where a Wellington woman in her thirties had fallen while descending the upper slopes of the mountain.

She sustained an ankle injury and was unable to walk. She was flown to Taupo hospital.

The helicopter was used in these jobs due to the remote an inaccessible location that these accidents happened

Philips Search and Rescue Trust is a charitable organisation, operating rescue helicopters throughout the Central North Island. Philips Search and Rescue Trust relies on support from principal sponsors and community donations. Special thanks to Taupo's principal sponsor, Greenlea. This crucial financial support ensures our rescue helicopters can continue to bring life-saving equipment, rescue personnel and trauma-trained medics directly to the patient.
