Big Prizes up for grabs at Tompkins Wake NZ Speedgolf Open

Big Prizes up for grabs at Tompkins Wake NZ Speedgolf Open

A big boost in sponsorship means more than $2,500 will be up for grabs in cash and prizes at the Tompkins Wake NZ Speedgolf Open being held at Rotorua Golf Club’s Arikikapakapa course, February 21-22.

Prizes are available for the participant with the longest drive, the athlete who gets closest to the pin and much more. There will also be a ‘Tompkins Wake - Hole in One on the Run’ challenge, with a $1000 prize for athletes who score a hole in one. If there are more than one, the prize will be split between them.

Tompkins Wake has come on board as the title sponsor for the event, seeing it as a perfect fit with their brand.

“We are delighted to be involved with the inaugural NZ Speed Golf Open.  Having recently merged with Rotorua law firm Davys Burton it is apt for us that this event is being held in Rotorua,” said Communications Manager Maggie Gibbons.

“In an age of busy lifestyles, we believe this new format of golf will appeal to anyone wanting to combine the obvious benefits of fitness and time saving and see the event as a great addition to the Rotorua events calendar. We look forward to seeing the event grow over the coming years.”

Radio Sport has also signed on as media partner, acquiring the naming rights for the Radio Sport Speedgolf Clinic to be held on the Saturday morning. Olympic silver medallist and Speedgolf exponent Nick Willis will be leading the clinic and is offset to be one of the favourites to take out the event itself.

Qualifying rounds will be played on the Saturday, following the morning’s clinic. That evening the NZ Speedgolf Open buffet dinner will be staged at the Pohutu Theatre at the Holiday Inn, where former All Blacks captain Ian Kirkpatrick and Nick Willis will be guest speakers.

The finals will be on the Sunday when competitors who didn’t qualify will get a shot at redemption in the morning before the top qualifiers battle it out for the title of New Zealand’s first Speedgolf Open Champion. The winner will gain direct entry into the Speedgolf World Championships being held at Bandon Dunes in Oregon in the US this April.
