Serious crash on SH1 Timaru-Pareora Highway - Timaru - Canterbury
Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle crash on SH1 south of Timaru which is understood to have occurred shortly after 11.45am this morning (19 February 2015).
SH1 is closed south of Timaru and diversions are in place on Beaconsfield Road and Talbot Road.
A south-bound car and a north-bound truck have collided head on.
The driver of the truck is uninjured however the driver and sole occupant of the car has been taken to Timaru Hospital with serious injuries.
Diversions are likely to remain in place for at least the next two hours while Canterbury Police Serious Crash Unit conduct a scene examination.
Canterbury Police ask the public to be patient and avoid the area where possible as delays are likely.
