Homicide victim named

Manawatü Police can now release the name of the man who died in hospital yesterday (7 April, 2015) morning after an altercation at a residential property in Palmerston North on 6 April, 2015.

He was Tui John Anderson, aged 28, of Palmerston North.

Mr Anderson sustained a single fatal stab wound to the abdomen from the altercation.

Police are not prepared to comment any further on the circumstances of his death or the weapon used.

The 26-year-old man charged with murder appeared in the Palmerston North District Court yesterday and was granted interim name suppression and remanded in custody.

He is due to reappear in the Palmerston North High Court on 4 May, 2015.

Officers are progressing with the scene examination and this is due to be completed by late this afternoon.

Police want to speak to anyone that has information about the altercation, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Nigel Affleck on (06) 213 9631.
