Heading to the Hurricanes-Chiefs game? Give yourself time

Heading to the Hurricanes-Chiefs game? Leave time up your sleeve.

Are you heading to the rugby in New Plymouth this weekend? Make sure you get there on time!

The NZ Transport Agency is advising travellers to give themselves extra travel time as it is expecting a busy day on the road this weekend.

This Saturday, New Plymouth is host to the match between the Chiefs and the Hurricanes at Yarrow Stadium and fans will be flocking to cheer on their favourite team.

The Transport Agency says that to make sure fans don’t miss a moment, if they’re coming into New Plymouth on State Highway 3 they should allow a bit of extra time to get to the stadium. With construction on the Vickers to City Upgrade in full swing, the Agency says the journey to the match could take a little longer than usual.

Crews are aiming to keep disruption to a minimum, but if fans leave plenty of time up their sleeves, they can avoid any disappointment and catch every try that’s scored.

With wet weather forecast, travellers also need to allow for the possibility of disruption on the highway network, such as slips. Drivers should ease off the accelerator when driving on slippery roads, and factor in extra time to ensure they drive safely and to the conditions.

The Transport Agency advises the public to have a safe and enjoyable weekend, and it dares not pick a winner out of the two mighty teams on display.
