SH2 Papamoa - tree removal

People travelling on SH2 past the old site of the Papamoa Hall should expect short delays from June 15, when contractors begin trimming and felling trees to improve road visibility for motorists.

The NZ Transport Agency’s Bay of Plenty journey manager, Nigel D’Ath says stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions of 30km/h or 50/km/h will be in place at times until June 31.

“This area has some winding corners and poor visibility, which is why we are improving safety and removing the trees,” he says.

“It is also a high speed areas due to the passing lanes and people should be alert and drive with care while the works are underway.”

SH30/SH2 White Pine Bush Rd intersection, Awakeri

Stop/go traffic management will be in place in Awakeri on Monday June 15 and Tuesday June 16 to allow contractors to mill and resurface the road by the eastern SH2/30 intersection.

On Tuesday traffic turning right in and out of SH2 White Pine Bush Rd will be detoured via Station Rd and Te Rahu Rd.

This diversion will allow for a much safer and more effective asphalt-laying operation at the intersection and will reduce the amount of movements on the new surface so it will stay smooth.

The work is weather dependent and may be postponed if necessary.

SH2 Bridgman Lane slip repair (between Katikati and Waihi)

Motorists travelling between Katikati and Waihi are advised to expect minor delays as work continues to repair an under slip near Bridgman Lane.

A 50km/h speed restriction and stop/go traffic management is in place. Work is expected be complete by June 19.

SH2 and SH29 safety works

Stop/ go traffic management, lane changes and speed restrictions will be in place along parts of SH2 and SH29 in the Bay of Plenty this month as a major safety improvement programme continues.

Contractors are widening shoulders, installing guard rails, removing trees & other hazards and installing rumble strips on centreline and edgeline road markings to improve safety for motorists.

In total, there will be 28 active sites along SH2 between Tauranga and Waihi, and approximately three active sites along SH29 between Tauriko and the Kaimai Summit this month.
Motorists are advised to allow an extra 10 minutes when travelling on SH2 and should expect minor delays on SH29.

SH33 Paengaroa

New pedestrian islands and guard railing are being installed on SH33 near Paengaroa this month.

The work started on June 10 and is expected to continue until July 1.

Motorists should allow for five minute delays due to stop/go traffic management and speed restrictions.

Omanawa Rd Slip Repair (off SH29 Kaimai Ranges)

Omanawa Road motorists are advised to expect up to five minute delays from June 11 to June 30 while contractors repair a major under slip 2.8km from the Omanawa Rd/SH29 Intersection.

Stop/go traffic management with a 30km/h speed restriction will be in place during the day and traffic signals with a 30km/h speed restriction will be in place during nights and weekends.

Motorists are advised to take extra care at this site and to closely heed the manual traffic controllers and the traffic signals.

The Transport Agency apologies for any inconvenience caused and thanks motorists for their patience during the works.
