Whangaparaoa College and Whangaparaoa Primary School are locked down and Police are on site.

The 18 year-old is not a current student at the school.

Several other schools in the area have gone into voluntary lock down.

A large number of Police units are in the area, both on foot and in cars.

The Eagle Helicopter has been dispatched to the area.

Parents of children at the schools are asked to please refrain from calling the 111 centre at this stage for more information.
