Waikanae takes out New Zealand’s most beautiful town

It’s official - Waikanae is New Zealand’s most beautiful large town.

Waikanae is the winner of this year’s ‘Beautiful Towns and Cities Award – Most Beautiful Large Town 5,000 to 20,000’, which is part of the Keep NZ Beautiful awards programme.

Mayor Ross Church says Waikanae is a very special place to live. “The award’s wonderful for Waikanae and the town is thoroughly deserving.”

Waikanae Ward Councillor Michael Scott says the award confirms what Waikanae residents already know. “We live in the best town in New Zealand.”

“Keep Waikanae Beautiful and our whole community need to be congratulated for getting in behind the application”, Cr Scott says.

Waikanae Community Board Chair Eric Gregory says the Board is very pleased to support Keep Waikanae Beautiful’s application with funding.

“We are delighted to assist Keep Waikanae Beautiful and help Waikanae receive acknowledgment.”

The Beautiful Towns and Cities Award recognises and celebrates positive actions taken by communities in local and urban areas to protect and enhance their local environments.

The award will be presented in Christchurch on Saturday 5th September 2015 at a formal dinner.
