Mangaweka Car Cliff Plunge Rescue

The Palmerston North based Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to a rural road east of Mangaweka this morning at 9am where a car had plunged several hundred feet down a cliff after coming off the road. The three young occupants from Marton and Bulls miraculously survived the fall and despite their injuries were able to extricate themselves from the upturned wreckage.

By the time the Rescue Helicopter arrived at the scene Taihape Fire Brigade, local Police and St John Ambulance resources were on hand.

The helicopter was used to hoist all of the occupants to safety, one of whom, an 18 year old male passenger from Bulls, required to be hoisted in a stretcher due to the nature of his injuries. He was airlifted to Palmerston North Hospital with suspected spinal injuries.

The Rescue Helicopter was dispatched to the due to the inaccessible location of the patients.
