Award our people

Award our people

Reward our district's greatest helpers by nominating them for a Citizens Civic Award.

Council is now asking for nominations to award local persons or organisations who have given outstanding voluntary service to communities in Tairāwhiti.

Mayor Meng Foon says the award recognises the service and benefit the recipients give to the community,

“These awards are an opportunity to celebrate those people who carry out voluntary work because they are committed to serving others.”

Any individual group or organisation may nominate a person currently living in the district who has given substantial voluntary community service that benefits people of the Gisborne district.

Past recipients of the awards include Betty Thompson for her work with special needs young adults, Relay for Life, Kidney Kids and Women's Institute.

Chris Sharp received an award last year for his voluntary work with Gisborne Search and Rescue as a team leader, lead searcher and controller, fund raising for Land Search and Rescue and his work locating dementia wanders.

For her work with Kohanga Reo, Te Kura Kaupapa Maori o Kawakawa mai Tawhiti, Hinemaurea Marae and as a Minister in the Matakaoa community, Raunikau Stainton was also awarded in 2014.

A judging panel made up of the Mayor, 3 councillors and 2 citizens of Gisborne will select recipients from the nominees to be awarded at ceremony in November.

Nominations close at 4pm on 1 October 2015.
