Time-lapse video created to connect Wellington to nature
Ten iconic Wellington nature attractions have launched a time-lapse video showcasing the natural beauty of Wellington’s outdoors. The video is available on YouTube and can be viewed here or by using the search term Natural Wellington.
The ten places featured in the video are Wellington Zoo, Zealandia, Pukaha Mt Bruce, Staglands Wildlife Reserve, Nga Manu Nature Reserve, Matiu/Somes Island, Battle Hill Farm Forest Park, Wellington Botanic Garden, Kaitoke Regional Park and Otari-Wilton’s Bush.
Amy Hughes, General Manager Community Engagement at Wellington Zoo, says, “We want this video to highlight the fantastic nature attractions around Wellington. Nothing beats the experience of seeing these places yourself, and hopefully this video will encourage Wellingtonians to further explore their outdoor options.
Being able to connect with nature is a unique and accessible part of Wellington. We’re so lucky to have these amazing experiences right on our doorstep.”
To celebrate the launch of the video, viewers can enter a draw to win family day passes to Pukaha Mt Bruce, Zealandia, Wellington Zoo, Staglands Wildlife Reserve, Nga Manu Nature Reserve and East by West ferry tickets to visit Matiu/Somes Island.
Those keen to enter need to watch the time-lapse video then email the name of their favourite location featured in the video to wellingtonoutdoors@gmail.com. The competition will also be run through participating social media sites.
The winner will be drawn on Friday 9 October 2015.
The video was created by videographer Zoe Robinson and features an emotive soundtrack by renowned Wellington musician Rhian Sheehan. It was filmed over a period of six weeks using two cameras left for up to three hours at each location capturing one click per second. The animal footage was the most difficult to capture with some animals, like the tuatara, not moving for hours on end.
