Brown announces international retirement

31 October, 2015

Silver Ferns shooter Jodi Brown has announced her retirement from international Netball following the final game of the 2015 New World Netball Series for the Constellation Cup.

Brown leaves the international arena having played 61 Tests for the Silver Ferns since making her debut against Niue in Kingston, Jamaica in July, 2003.

She was part of New Zealand’s 2003 World Cup-winning team, and won silver medals at the 2007 and 2015 World Cups, and the 2014 Commonwealth Games.

Brown says she feels the time is right to finish her international Netball career and take more time to be with her husband and young family.

“It has been an enormous privilege to be part of such an incredible team beginning my career as the junior in the 2003 World Cup team and now ending it as part of an outstanding Silver Ferns senior leadership group,” Brown said.

“It’s an honour to represent New Zealand and the Silver Ferns but I am now very much looking forward to spending more quality time with my family, Kiana (6 years), Aria (4years) and husband Markham.

“I am excited about the young talent coming into the team and I know the future is looking bright!”

Netball New Zealand Chief Executive Hilary Poole says Brown has been an outstanding contributor to the Silver Ferns for over a decade.

“I want to congratulate Jodi on a remarkable international Netball career; she is a wonderful ambassador for our sport and has played a significant role in the Silver Ferns programme both on and off the court,” Poole said.

“She epitomises what it means to represent the Silver Ferns and wear the black dress; her work ethic, dedication, Netball smarts and leadership are just some of her defining trademarks.

“Jodi is well respected by everyone involved in the sport and we wish her well in the future.”

Brown will continue to play in the ANZ Championship with the Central Pulse in 2016.
