Hunters and dog rescued after fall in bush

At approximately 09:30 this morning the Life Flight Trust rescued two hunters and a dog from bush inland from Ward in Marlborough.

Life Flight responded in the Westpac Rescue Helicopter with a Wellington Free Ambulance Paramedic on board.

One of the hunters was suffering from a shoulder injury after a fall last evening. The hunters were able to walk to a small hut near Isolation Hill but a rescue was not possible due to the weather last night.

Life Flight was contacted just before 7am this morning but low cloud in the area meant that we could not respond until the cloud lifted. The hunters called at around 08:45 to say the weather had cleared.

Once overhead the scene the paramedic was winched to the patient. A small clearing was then located a short distance from the hunters; the paramedic, two hunters and the dog made their way to the clearing. One hunter, their packs and the dog were dropped at their vehicle and the injured man was transported to Wairau Hospital.

The Marlborough man in his 20's was suffering from an apparent shoulder dislocation and the pain from the injury prevented the men from walking out of the bush.
