At approximately 6.50pm emergency services attended a serious crash near Twizel.
The crash occurred at the intersection of the Twizel-Omarama Road (State Highway 8) and McGaughtries Road.
Two vehicles were involved in the crash.
Police can confirm that two people died at the scene of the crash.
5 other people have received moderate to serious injuries.
A Serious Crash Investigator will be attending the scene from Dunedin.
