Community feedback on Nelson Southern Link investigation

5 August 2016 | CENTRAL REGION

Community feedback on Nelson Southern Link investigation released

A summary report outlining community feedback on the Nelson Southern Link Investigation has been released today by the NZ Transport Agency.

The report summarises over 2,000 items of feedback received over five weeks from people in the Nelson and Tasman regions about how to improve Nelson’s arterial transport network. Feedback came from individuals, stakeholders, organisations, societies and interest groups. To ensure a wide range of views were captured the Transport Agency also conducted a separate telephone survey with a random sample of 500 people across Nelson and Tasman (400 in Nelson, 100 in Tasman).

“This feedback provides good insight into the views of a wide range of people and demonstrates the interest people have in the future of their transport network,” Raewyn Bleakley, Central Regional Director, NZ Transport Agency says.

Public feedback on the Investigation, which was launched in 2015 as part of the Government’s Accelerated Regional Roading Package, has always been a key element of the investigation process, Ms Bleakley says.

“It was very important that we took this time at the start of the Nelson Southern Link Investigation to understand the community’s expectations and ideas about the future of the state highway. The level and quality of engagement with the local community on this issue has been positive.”

Ms Bleakley says the feedback from the public engagement will be carefully considered as the Transport Agency finalises this phase of the investigation and determines the way forward.

The feedback will be used, along with other factors, to complete the Programme Business Case later this year. The business case will include a recommended approach to improve transport along the arterial network between the Annesbrook and Haven Road roundabouts.
