Police make methamphetamine arrests at Dunedin Airport

Dunedin Police have arrested two men at Dunedin Airport this morning on drugs charges.

The two men aged 32 and 34 arrived at the airport on a flight from the North Island in possession of methamphetamine. They were arrested just outside the terminal.

The pair have gang and organised crime connections and will face charges in relation to the possession for supply of methamphetamine.

The arrest this morning has prevented multiple ounces of methamphetamine from being distributed in the South Island.

Police are committed to reducing the demand for methamphetamine and disrupting the supply chain.

The social harm and fallout from the supply and use of methamphetamine is significant, the drug is a driver of crime and harm in the community.

“There is no tolerance for gang members or anyone else who distributes drugs, we will continue to detect and disrupt these networks and prevent crime by holding offenders to account,” says Detective Senior Sergeant John Fergusson of the Dunedin Organised Crime Unit.

The men will appear in Dunedin District Court later today.

Investigations are continuing and as the matter is now before the courts Police are not in a position to comment further.
