Fatal crash SH1, near Waikanae

Police are responding to a fatal crash between a truck and a car on State Highway 1 north of Waikanae.

Emergency services were called to the crash near Greenhill Road just before 6:30am this morning.

The driver of the car has died and the driver of the truck has minor injuries.

This incident is expected to cause significant traffic delays and train services in the area are also affected.

A diversion using Peka Peka and Te Moana Roads is being put in place.

Police advise people to allow extra time for their journey and to check their train service is still operating.
