Napier Station on track for official opening in December

"Hawkes Bay Police’s Napier Station on track for official opening in December"

Hawkes Bay Police’s Napier Station is well on track for the official opening in December with Hawkes Bay Police hosting the contractors to a BBQ in appreciation for the work they have done so far.

Area Commander Inspector Tania Kura expressed thanks to the contractors, noting that they are working hard to ensure a timely completion whilst ensuring the work is held to a high standard.

“Our new station is going to provide a modern, fit-for-purpose, safe working environment for staff, enabling them to better service the Hawkes Bay area,” she says.

“Our staff work hard and have an important job to do.

They work with some of our most vulnerable members of the community, often in trying circumstances, and they deserve the best working space we can provide for them.”

Inspector Kura says the station in Napier needs significant investment and a new, modern facility that is purpose-built for our needs is a more cost-effective solution which will allow Police to better service the needs of the communities.

“The current stations date back to the 1960s and do not suit the needs of a modern police service.”

“Our staff are currently working in cramped conditions, squeezed into re-purposed spaces,” she says.

“Anyone who has visited the current stations can see that they are rundown and do not provide a particularly pleasant working environment.”

“We are constantly looking at how we can provide better service to the Hawkes Bay area.

“We don’t want our staff sitting in stations doing paperwork.

We need them out in the community, being visible and helping those who really need it.

The design of the stations and how they allow us to deploy staff to areas where we know they’re needed will greatly benefit the Hawkes Bay communities.

Hawkes Bay Police will continue with this goal next year with the construction of new premises in Hastings, which will provide a safer working environment for staff and the community.

Police will host a public open day before they officially move into the facility.
