"Crash in SH1 Piarere near Tirau - motorists to avoid area"

Both lanes are blocked on SH1 in Piarere, South Waikato, between Horahora Road and Paparamu Road.

Two cars have collided at about 6.15pm and people are trapped in the vehicles.

Police and emergency services are in attendance and diversions are in place.
