A True Kiwi Experience at Canterbury A&P Show

A true Kiwi experience on offer at the Canterbury A&P Show

Kiwi sounds, cuisine and gumboot throwing; three quintessential things on offer at this years’ Canterbury A&P Show, being held at Canterbury Agricultural Park in just over two weeks’ time.

Urban artist Ladi6 will headline the ASB Village Green on Show Day. Ladi6 has had a stellar career both here and overseas and has a string of awards to her name. Her well-known hits include Like Water and Diamonds and her soulful live sets will be the perfect backdrop at the Show.

‘It’s awesome that Ladi6 is playing on her home turf of Christchurch, amongst her own community,’ says Linda Falwasser, General Manager Attraction, ChristchurchNZ.

The New Zealand Army Band, known as one of the finest marching bands in the world will be entertaining crowds daily. Their unique and entertaining displays of music, choreography, mixed with humour, will be leading the Grand Parade on Friday.

Also playing is country music sensation, Kaylee Bell. An artist who has soared up the music charts, Kaylee has won numerous awards in New Zealand and Australia, including a Vodafone New Zealand Music Award for Best NZ Country Album. She’s performed alongside Keith Urban and is touring with the McClymonts in Australia in 2018.

As usual there will be a large array of family entertainment on the Tip Top Family Lawn, including Itty Bitty Beats. An award winning local children’s musical duo, Itty Bitty Beats make music for little ones. The dynamic duo has had an exciting run since forming in 2014, appearing on television, releasing several albums and a music video.

Catering to the discerning palette, international celebrity chef Sachie Nomura will be whipping up a storm at the Westinghouse Demonstration Kitchen in the Food & Wine Village. A woman of many hats; executive chef, new mum, entrepreneur, food writer, government consultant and television personality, her show Sachie’s Kitchen has been broadcast in over 45 countries. She owns Australasia’s largest cooking school and specialises in Asian and Japanese cooking.

A compulsory element of Kiwi culture and the Show experience are gumboots. The sport of gumboot throwing is a serious business and the Show will be hosting the South Island Gumboot Throwing Championship. Taking place at the Entertainment Zone during Show Day, it is an activity the public can have a go at, with the final taking place at 2.30pm. Cash prizes are on offer and the top three throwers will be invited to compete at the national final, taking place at the Hilux NZ Rural Games in Palmerston North next year.
