Water restrictions reduced across Horowhenua

Water restrictions reduced across Horowhenua

Horowhenua District Council has lifted water restrictions for residents connected to town water supplies in Shannon, Tokomaru, Foxton and Foxton Beach, effective from Thursday 1 March.

Water restrictions for Levin and Ōhau have been reduced from Level 2 to Level 1.

Council announced the changes to the water restrictions following recent rainfall in the District, cooler temperatures and a drop in demand for water.

Horowhenua District Council wishes to thank residents for their patience and their efforts to save water during the restrictions.

Water restrictions in Levin and Ōhau currently remain at Level 1 because a week of dry weather was forecast that could affect flows in the Ōhau River, which is the source of the water supply for these communities.

“Council continues to closely monitor flows in the Ōhau River, and we look forward to lifting the water restrictions for Levin and Ōhau once we’re satisfied that flows have stabilised,” said Water Services Engineer, Levaai Toremana.

Further status updates for Levin and Ōhau will be made available through Council customer service centres, website, Facebook page, and local news media.

Level One water restrictions mean:

· Garden sprinklers may only be used during the hours of 5am to 9am and 7pm to 9pm on alternate days as follows:

o Houses with even street numbers on even dates.

o Houses with odd street numbers on odd dates.
