Auckland Airport Community Trust funding round open

Media Release | Monday 16 July 2018

$300,000 Auckland Airport Community Trust funding round open for applications

Auckland Airport Community Trust’s $300,000 funding round for 2018 is now open. The Trust is encouraging charitable organisations offering cultural, recreational and other activities that benefit the community as a whole within South Auckland to apply.

Charities, schools and not-for-profit groups operating for the benefit of residents most affected by aircraft noise are eligible. The area of benefit is defined by the noise contours map and can be found on the Trust website. The Trust has awarded more than $3.7 million in grants since it was established in 2003. Trust Chair Noel Robinson says that supporting communities to grow and thrive is at the heart of the Trust’s granting.

“Auckland Airport Community Trust has a responsibility to support those communities living in areas of South Auckland affected by aircraft noise. We’re also passionate about the impact we can help community organisations to achieve through our community granting.”

“We’ve chosen to concentrate our funding efforts on initiatives that support learning outcomes for children, young people and families, as we believe this is vital for a healthy, happy and thriving community.”

Last year the trust distributed $257,565 to 13 community groups including Te Whakaora Tangata who have used the funding for their amazing resource programme, “These programmes are highly relational, and provide families with critical life, parenting, and relationship skills. With Auckland Airport Community Trust’s support, our team have been able to conduct about 15 home visits each week, and run 20 Kia Kaha sessions so far this year” (Tricia Stevenson, Te Whakaora Tangata).

“Since the Trust started making its annual grants, we’ve seen some amazing groups doing innovative and inspiring work,” Mr Robinson says. “To know that we’ve helped them to make a positive impact in their communities is an incredible privilege.”
